a little art show

i can't get enough of henry with his abstract nature portraits!!

naomi's watercolors:

it's no secret our family loves art. in fact one of the things that i love most about homeschooling is the amount of time we can pour into the kids' interests. i've always been the creative type and when i see how my children can spend hours painting and drawing and creating my heart just melts. and i think truly, God meant for me to be their mama!

art is also a great past time to keep their little hands busy while i'm washing dishes or cooking or whatever else i need to do. i think it's good for them to create, even when they're little and just scribbling away with a marker. it's a way for them to express their ideas and get to share with us!

i've always kept their art supplies in drawers they can reach so they're able to work on projects independently if they want. paper, pencils, crayons, stickers, stamps, paints, scrap paper to cut up, akemi's favorite playdough... all waiting for their little imaginations. they have so much fun (and can make a royal mess pretty quickly)! but that is life with little ones.

recently, we pulled out some mini canvases for painting. naomi did some abstract paintings to give friends for christmas and the kids also made a little art show to send back to berlin with mary. akemi is obsessed with museums and kept saying it's my little art show! oh she is so cute.

  2. This is precious! And such a great idea to encourage their creativity (and makes great cheap gifts too!). How old were they when they started getting into drawing etc? My son is 7months, really looking forward to this stage! x

  3. We also are a very arty / musical family. My childminder is doing assessments on the children and said my daughter is behind in certain academic areas. I do encourage learning, but I also encourage following your strong areas. My daughter is clearly drawn towards music and art, then I will gladly let her spend hours on it, and 5 minutes on counting. Let them follow their dreams I say. It sounds like you have the right idea, and well done for homeschooling, I'd never have the patience for such a thing. Found you through Casey's blog
